Thinking About Team Photography?

Need A Reason Why?

Team sport photography is not just about capturing a moment in time, it's about preserving a piece of history. I know this firsthand from a few years ago when I was doing an AFL team shoot in Hawthorn. I arrived early, as I always do, and took a stroll around the club before the shoot. The walls were adorned with team photos dating back to the 1930s, and as I gazed at the faces of those young men, I couldn't help but think about their stories, their battles, and their triumphs. It dawned on me how crucial these team photos are in capturing the essence of a club and its members.

These images serve as a pictorial history of the men, women, and children who represented their club and their country. And as a photographer, I feel privileged to play a part in creating images that will be mounted on the walls for generations to come. Who knows, 100 years from now, another photographer might be standing in front of my images, admiring the faces of these players who gave their all for their team.

Of course, we cannot predict the future, but one thing is for sure: the photographic record of your team, your club, will be remembered. As players come and go, the history of your club will grow, and future generations will look back on these images with pride and respect. Imagine 30 or 40 years from now, when your best sporting achievements are behind you, and you stumble upon your team photo. As you gaze at the faces of your friends and remember the victories, you will feel immense happiness that you were a part of it.

So, let's celebrate team sport photography, not just for the moment it captures, but for the legacy it leaves behind. It's a way to honor the players who came before us and inspire the players who will come after.
